LONDON:In a US court on Monday, the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer had sued the United States to stop the drug’s approval for use in treating male sexual dysfunction.
The suit was filed in U. S. District Court in Manhattan in London. The suit, filed in New Jersey, is being investigated by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Pfizer has long been concerned that the company may have failed to adequately warn consumers of the risk of taking the drug, which can cause erectile dysfunction, in some men.
Pfizer, which has an exclusive patent in Viagra for the drug, is expected to launch the drug in the US on November 1, 2011.

The company said its “product characteristics” included the ability to produce a “stronger erection and more reliable penetration of the penis, compared to Viagra.”
